When to Keep Your Child Home

How sick is too sick?

To help maintain a healthy learning environment and prevent the spread of illness, please keep your child home if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever of 100°F or higher

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhea

  • Rash accompanied by a fever

  • Eye redness with drainage

  • Symptoms of a contagious illness that prevent them from participating in school activities

Students should be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication before returning to school. Students who have experienced vomiting or diarrhea should remain home until they have been symptom-free for at least 24 hours. Certain communicable diseases may require additional treatment, documentation from a healthcare provider, or clearance from the Health Office before returning to school.

If you are unsure whether your child should attend school, please contact the Health Office for guidance. Working together helps keep our students healthy, safe, and ready to learn.
