• The History of Virgil I. Bailey Elementary School

A fourth elementary school building was planned for construction in the northeast section of the city in order to relieve overcrowding conditions at Carl J. Polk Elementary. Construction was completed in
1967 for Virgil I. Bailey Elementary School, named in honor of the first  Superintendent of Schools for the city.

A new Early Learning Wing was added to Bailey School in 2011.
It includes 10 new classrooms and a storage facility.  It houses the district's kindergarten classrooms, an additional computer lab and services for students with special needs.
